District Boundary Study

boundaryThis year, the West Des Moines Community Schools will study trends in student enrollment and review the location of school boundaries. The last boundary/enrollment study was completed by the district in 2007.

The boundary committee - made up of parents, staff, administrators and community partners - has been charged with sending a recommendation to the school board for its Dec. 8 meeting. Throughout the process you can stay informed through public forums (dates to be announced), emails, the Informaline, social media and on the district website. CLICK HERE FOR MORE

Stilwell Announcements, November 21, 2014 Day 2

Building Safety- Check In Procedures

Parents entering the building need to always check in the office first.

Parents Visiting A Classroom or Teacher

Please talk to an administrator to set a time up to meet with a teacher. Those kind of appointments need to be scheduled.

Parking Lot Safety

For the safety of our staff and students please slow down when you enter and exit the Stilwell parking lot.

Dismissal Info: Weather Related

With Iowa’s ever changing weather conditions, please discuss with your child a contingency plan if activities are cancelled or there is early dismissal – please let your child know if they should get on the bus or wait for a parent.

Parents-Important to Note

If your student is going to be leaving early from school, please send a note with your student and they can come into the office at 7:25 a.m. to get a pass to leave when needed. This helps so we do not have to call into a classroom and disrupt learning time. If your student is coming in LATE, we do not answer phones during that time. Please send a note with them.

Combat Hunger

Good morning Stilwell.  We are halfway through our donation week for Combat Hunger and thank you so very much with everything you have donated so far.  Did you know that last year 10,921,355 pounds of donated GROCERY food went to 55 Iowa counties, and that still wasn’t enough to feed all of our hungry Iowan citizens?  Please continue to bring in those non-perishable food items, paper products and personal products.

No Shave November

Unfortunately we all at Stilwell have been impacted by the harmful effects of cancer and the staff here at Stilwell is no exception. So, from today through the end of November we have a way to raise some money to combat cancer and have some fun as well.  You may have noticed Mr. Bissinger, Mr. Boyle, Mr. Bacehowski, Mr. Pearce, and Mr. Weber all participating in a fun competition of “No Shave November.” What we would like to do is have students and staff donate money into buckets located in the office or in the cafeteria during lunch to support who you feel best represents “No Shave November.”  ALL money will be given directly to the American Cancer Society. So, today at lunch please look for the buckets for each participant and follow the before and after pictures we post throughout the school. Thanks everyone!

 Current winnings:

Bacehowski - $3.00

Bissinger - $2.25

Boyle - $6.29

Pearce - $33.46

Weber - $7.88

SWEAT will NOT meet either day next week.  We will resume it on Monday, December 1st, when we return from break.  Thanks!

After the Bell

There will be no Stilwell After the Bell on Tuesday, November 25. Enjoy your time off for Thanksgiving!

After School Expectations

As we move into the winter months, it is important to understand that all students MUST be under adult supervision while on Stilwell Campus. So, students have three options after school:

1) After the Bell with work to do until a parent picks them up or the 4 o’clock bus.
2) The Teen Center, student must sign in and out on the days they attend.
3) Head home either by obtaining a ride or walking home.
We can’t have students hanging out in front of the school or in the door ways unsupervised. Students who are congregating nears exits will be escorted to our “After the Bell” program where they will be asked to complete homework or free read. “After the Bell” is a structured study hall supported by two of our staff members and behavior expectations of students are similar to that of study halls during the school day. Thank you in advance for your assistance in providing a safe environment for all students.

Eric Boyle

If you like playing dodgeball and are interested in playing, intramural dodgeball will start on Monday, December 1st after school. Intramurals would love to have you come. Remember, if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball. See you on the 1st.

"The Stilwell/ Indian Hills wrestled Ames and Dowling last night at Indian Hills. We had a great meet, victories were contagious, and the atmosphere was electric! The Stilwell wrestlers won 25, with Noah Micka, Brendan Nielson, Nate Meyers, Carson Lawrence, Andrew Laybon, Nicky Trane, Austin Emans, and Jacob Gaspar were undefeated. We wrestle again on Tuesday at Waukee.

We all take different paths in life, but no matter where we go, we take a little of each other everywhere.
